Rob Edwards has called on his Wolves players to make the most of one final Premier League match at Molineux before 2025/26 reaches its conclusion, as the Old Gold host Fulham on Sunday.
With their eight-year tenure in the top flight soon to come to an end following this season’s relegation, Edwards admits plans are already well underway for next year’s Championship campaign, as the club aim to bounce back at the first possible opportunity.
As Sunday’s game could be the final outing at Molineux for several of the first-team squad, and with 19th place still up for grabs, the head coach is urging his players to give everything of themselves in the final two matches to try and not finish bottom of the Premier League table.
On Nathan Shi becoming permanent chairman
“It’s a very important summer and I think it’s a very important appointment. It’s great for the club because Nathan’s had a really positive impact since coming in. I’ve got a good relationship with him as well, which is obviously good and needed, so it can only be a good thing.
“We’re going to work really hard now to build a team and a squad and build a better club. That’s what we’re all going to try and do. Everyone is putting all their energy into that at the moment.
“It’s a really big challenge. We knew that it was going to be really difficult, and it has been, and it is, but at the same time, we’re really motivated and enthused by what we’re going to be able to do next. There’s been some lows, there’s been a few high moments, but not enough of them. But that’s what we’re all working towards, trying to deliver more good moments, and we’re pretty confident that we’re all capable of doing that.”

On this week’s Fan Forum at Molineux
“It was to be expected. Look at the position we’re in, it was never going to be all sunshine and rainbows. A lot of people are hurting, and that’s really understandable because we are hurting as well. It was valuable and it was great to be able to hear some of the supporters’ points of view and listen, and for us to be able to try and communicate some of our thoughts and points.
“But afterwards there was a lot of support there, and a lot of people came to see me and made a point of coming to do that and say how they appreciate the situation at the moment and understand how difficult it is, and really want us to succeed, so I took a lot of good faith in that as well.
“I think a lot of people understand how difficult the situation has been and is, and had a real balanced view on it, which was nice to hear. I understand the frustration and the anger and the hurt, and we have to accept it, and I’m the one that comes out and has to speak to you guys every week and after the games, so there’s always going to be someone to blame, and that’s fine.
“We’ve got to be able to take that because, in the end, it’s not been good enough. But it was good for me as well, to have a lot of people coming up afterwards and showing that support and that faith in us and tell us how they hope we can be the ones that can help turn things around.”
On team news ahead of Sunday
“Sa trained fully today, Krejci trained fully today as well, so we’re pretty much at full tilt. Hugo [Bueno] trained today as well, it was the first time he’s trained this week, but he trained the full session.
“There are one or two people who have got a couple of knocks, but that’s normal at this stage of the season, but in the main, we’ve got a pretty much clean bill of health.”
On the final home game of the season
“For some, it could be the last time they play at Molineux, it could be the last couple of games people play in the Premier League, so we want to try and make the most of it. We spoke about that again today. If their families are there, they’re obviously going to want to try and make it a good day. If we can perform well, and if we can get a result, then obviously it makes it a more comfortable afternoon for us, so that’s what we’re aiming to do.
“We’ve got to get through them as best as possible. We want to chuck everything out here to try and win the games and that’s what we’ll do. We’re working really hard to do that. We’ve got to give everything to try and finish as well as possible.
“Everyone keeps reminding me that in recent years, we’ve not finished seasons well as a football club, so we need to try and do our best to make sure that we pick up two results, and if we’re right at it, then we’re capable of doing that. And of course, we don’t want to finish bottom of the league, so that’s something to try and aim for.”
On the threat Fulham pose
“They’re a good team and Marco Silva has done a brilliant job there. They’re a good footballing team, they’ve got a nice way of going about it, but also now they look like a team who can compete with anyone on their day, and within a number of different ways, with lots of movement and rotations.
“They’re a big challenge, but one we’re really looking forwards to. Let’s just go and deliver a performance now, rather than me talking about what we’ve done this week or anything else. Let’s just go and deliver a performance against a good team.”
See you on Sunday, @Wolves 🏟️

On Wolves Women’s half-time trophy parade
“They’ll get the reception that they deserve, because they’ve made the club proud this year. I suppose we’re the opposite at the moment, but they’ll be getting what they deserve.
“I really hope everyone’s out there and giving them a load of love and make a load of noise for them because they’ve done amazingly well and they deserve everything they’re getting at the moment.”
On putting plans together for next season
“I know what I want the squad to look like. We had a really good meeting a few days ago, with Matt and Nathan, just going into real detail around what it’s going to look like, who we’d like it to look like, and that’s a real positive, and we want to try and deliver that.
“We all want the same thing. We all want the club to be successful and to win games of football, and the aim will be to bounce back. That’s what we all want. But we’ve got to work really hard to try and deliver that.
“Whatever I want to say – and people can take it or leave it – in the end, the actions are going to speak louder than the words. We’ve got to try and build a really good squad of people who want to be here. It’d be amazing to be back with everyone in 11 months’ time and be celebrating and in a better place.”
