U21 Report | Brentford 0-2 Wolves

Brentford 0 Wolves 2 (Edozie 32, Ballard-Matthews 66)

Goals from Tom Edozie and Emilio Ballard-Matthews earned Wolves under 21s a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Brentford under 21s in the Premier League 2.

Victory at Wheatsheaf Park moved Richard Walker’s side to four successive games unbeaten, also helping the Old Gold to win back-to-back league games.

Wolves started the game brightly as their first chance fell into the path of Tom Edozie, who was able to cut inside under pressure inside the penalty area and shoot over the crossbar.

As the first half progressed, the game looked to be a more physical battle between the two teams as whilst the Old Gold were working the ball into promising areas, Ollie Shield saw his effort blocked from close range for the hosts.

However, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 32nd minute as the ball was headed out to Edozie on the edge of the area, who chested the ball down before volleying into the right hand corner of the goal.

The goal saw the visitors build on their control of the game as chances from Xu Bin and Enso Gonzalez produced saves from Aidan Stokes inside the Brentford goal just before the half-time whistle

Half-Time: Brentford 0-1 Wolves

Brentford looked to respond instantly after the break as they had a huge opportunity to level the game when Luca Picotto broke down the left-hand side and forced Josh Gracey into a good save to parry the ball away from danger.

Just two minutes after coming on as a substitute, Ballard-Matthews was played through by Myles Dayman in the 66th minute before shifting the ball onto his right foot and finishing low into the bottom corner to double the lead.

The second goal was vital in preventing any further pressure from the home side as Richard Walker’s side looked to control the tempo of the game, with each phase of play being broken up in quick succession.

Brentford did apply pressure on the Wolves backline as the game entered the closing stages; however, the visitors held strong as they limited the home side to just four shots over the whole game.
