U21 Report | Wolves 2-1 West Brom

Wolves 2 (Angel 25, Edozie 82) West Bromwich Albion 1 (Parmar 76)

Goals from Dani Angel and Tom Edozie helped Wolves under-21s to their first Premier League 2 victory of the season, winning 2-1 against rivals West Bromwich Albion at Aggborough.

After holding a one-goal lead at the break, an equaliser from Rio Parmar did not affect Richard Walker’s side, as Edozie’s composed finish just six minutes after ensured victory on home turf.

The opening stages of the game were heavily contested between the two teams, as the first opportunity fell to the Old Gold as Xu Bin, who had his shot under pressure deflected behind after West Brom failed to clear from a set-piece.

The visitors soon had an opportunity of their own as Rio Parmar stepped up and curled his free kick narrowly wide of the post, which left Josh Gracey scrambling to his left-hand side.

However, Wolves were able to break the deadlock in the 25th minute as a perfect corner found Angel inside the area, who hooked the ball into the bottom corner.

This opener looked to have sparked a reaction from the visitors, who led by Nathan Dlamini on the left wing, proved a threat as he hit the post and cut back for a Tammer Bany chance, who failed to trouble Gracey just after the half-hour mark.

Half Time: Wolves 1-0 West Brom

Despite the visitors looking to up the tempo at the start of the second half, Wolves were able to muster two chances in quick succession as Tom Edozie’s one-on-one was diverted wide by an Adam Letlat tackle, before Temple Ojinnaka headed the resulting corner marginally wide.

Space continued to appear in the Baggies backline as they push for an equaliser as two chances from Minkyu Ji and Enzo Gonzalez stung the palms of Ben Cisse, who parried the ball away from danger.

However, the visitors were able to equalise in the 76th minute as Parmar broke forward before dispatching a powerful strike into the top right-hand corner.

After substitute Minkyu Ji forced a good save from close range minutes after the equaliser, the Old Gold retook the lead as Edozie ran through on goal, before finishing coolly into the bottom corner.

As the closing stages approached, Richard Walker’s side were able to successfully control the tempo and frustrate West Brom, limiting any opportunities to equalise for a second time.

Wolves will look to build on their first victory as a quick turnaround sees them travel to face Everton under-21s on Friday night.
