Matheus Cunha finished as Wolves’ top scorer for the 2023/24 campaign – his first full season at Molineux.
Following a signing announced on Christmas Day 2022, Cunha settled during his first six months at the club and became a key figure under Gary O’Neil, playing across the front line.
Having spent 18 months under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid and has previously sampled both the Swiss Super League and Bundesliga, the quick and skilful striker signed on a loan move which became a permanent deal until 2027.
Cunha was born in Brazil, before a passage to Europe opened up through a move to Swiss side Sion, where he settled instantly as a teenager, finishing with 10 goals and eight assists in just 32 games.
After just one season, the attacker’s next stop was Germany and RB Leipzig, which brought Champions League football and a nomination for the FIFA Puskas Award following an incredible solo goal against Bayer Leverkusen.
Time with Hertha and Atletico followed, before the Molineux move. After helping the Old Gold to Premier League survival in 2023, he kicked on in 2023/24 and scored in Wolves’ first win at the Hawthorns in 27 years.
A hat-trick at Chelsea followed soon after, as Wolves won 4-2, as did a Goal of the Season nominated following a stunning solo goal at Nottingham Forest.
