Jose Sa

Jose Sa has spent the past three seasons as Wolves’ regular first-choice goalkeeper and provides a dominant presence between the sticks.

The Portugal international, who was voted Player of the Season by supporters during his debut campaign at Molineux, missed just six Premier League games during his first three years at Molineux.

Sa joined Wolves on the back of a three-year stint at Olympiacos, where he won back-to-back Super League titles in 2020 and 2021, as well as the Greek Football Cup in 2019/20.

Prior to his move to Greece, he spent his career in his native Portugal, progressing up the youth ranks at Merelinense and Benfica – under future Wolves head coach Bruno Lage – before breaking through as a professional at Maritimo.

The keeper then spent two years at Porto. Originally coming in as back-up for Spanish international Iker Casillas, Sa would go on to feature regularly as the club secured the 2017/18 Primeira Liga, while making five outings in the Champions League that same season.

Sa made his senior debut for Portugal in November 2023, keeping a clean sheet in a win over Liechtenstein.

Having kept 11 Premier League sheets in his debut year at Molineux, Sa has retained the gloves since, making his 100th competitive appearance for the club against Chelsea in February 2024.

The previous September he’d signed a new contract with the Old Gold, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Stats

Five years after his first call up to the senior Portugal squad, Jose Sa made his full international debut in a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein in November 2023, also keeping a clean sheet.

Previously capped by the under-20, under-21 and under-23 groups, Sa stepped into the senior group for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and was part of their Nations League-winning group two years later.

Named in the final squad for the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, Sa is regularly included by various Wolves teammates when departing for international duty.
