Wolves Women commence Schools Trophy Tour

Ahead of their first ever WSL 2 campaign, Wolves Women kicked-off pre-season by visiting three local schools to show off their play-off final trophy and discuss their promotion winning season.

Working with the Wolves Foundation, three lucky local primary schools received visits from players and staff where they were able to pitch their questions and celebrate with the squad, which included an all-assembly trophy lift.

On Tuesday, manager Dan McNamara, midfielder Tammi George, all-time appearance maker Anna Price and club chair Jenny Wilkes visited SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary in Newbridge where several lucky students were chosen to ask their questions to the group in a press conference style set up, before they were handed signed leaflets which included ticket offers for the children and their families to attend WSL 2 matches at the SEAH Stadium, Telford.

The following day captain Anna Morphet and winger Louanne Worsey visited Woden Primary in Heath Town and St Luke's Primary in Blakenhall. At Woden, the school kindly set out their stage and welcomed the players with their own presentation by Key Stage 2 Lead, Mrs Godfrey, who detailed Wolves Women's rise to the second-tier. Pupils from partner school, Heath Park Academy, also joined the session and were among the group to lead questions on resilience, goals for the season and of course whether they preferred Messi or Ronaldo!

St Luke's - the location from where Wolverhampton Wanderers were formed back in 1877 - was the final stop of the tour. With the school still feeling the buzz from England's World Cup win over DR Congo the night before, St Luke's students joined in another Q&A session before the loudest cheer of the afternoon came as Morphet and Worsey lifted the trophy in unison with the pupils, who again were given ticket offers for the WSL season.

Craig Bratt, Marketing Manager for Wolves Women said: "Getting out into the local community and inspiring youngsters is a huge part of the Wolves Women ethos - and that's why we gave every child a leaflet to claim tickets for upcoming matches in our first ever WSL 2 season. Growing attendances is about more than driving revenue - it's about inspiring the next generation. It was really inspiring to see the smiles on the children's faces and hopefully they went home and told their parents about how they met professional footballers!"

The Wolves Women Schools Tour will recommence when term begins in September. Any schools in the Wolverhampton and Telford area who would like to explore a visit from Wolves Women are welcome to email richardlewis@wolves.co.uk to register their interest.
