Charlotte Greengrass was pleased with Wolves Women’s performance as they picked up three points with a 4-0 victory over Rugby Borough at the SEAH Stadium.
The forward was among the goalscorers in the first half as she linked up with Amber Hughes again, cementing the duo as one of the most prolific in the FAWNL.
Greengrass touched on the team’s performance, on the importance of early goals, as well as the impact of playing teams multiple times this season.
On the performance
“Yeah, I think Macca [Dan McNamara] summed it up at half-time really well, that we owed ourselves a performance after West Brom last week.
“I don't think we were at our best, and I think we needed a reaction. I think this was the perfect platform for us to do that. So I think we've really applied ourselves and put the game plan into action.”
On the importance of scoring goals early
“I think in the first half of the season, we were doing really well at that, at scoring early on, and I think it helps settle us into the game and then get some momentum and to grips with the game.
“But I think Amber [Hughes] does what she does best, and then it was a brilliant start and just what we needed to settle us into the game and get us going.”
On her goal
“Yeah, it definitely is [nice to score]. I think Amber put it on an absolute plate, so I'd be doing well to miss from there, but yeah, I love contributing, but equally, I don't really care who scores as long as we get that win, that's the most important thing to get.”
On Abi Loydon’s goal
“I'm really pleased with Abi as well. She works so hard in training; she definitely deserves it.
“It was a bit of an erratic half [the second half], and we needed to get a grip in the game, but it was difficult at times, but I think they didn't have anything to lose. So, we needed to push for that last goal, and I think it helped settle us.”
On the impact of playing teams multiple times
“I think it can be frustrating, but we want to stay, as we have, in as many competitions as we can, and I think every game is helping us build to what we want to achieve this season.
“So I think it gives us momentum, and it's important that we're getting games every week because that period in January, not playing, was miserable.
“I think it's frustrating, but sometimes you just [need] different game plans.
“We've played Rugby three times now, and it's probably a different game every time. You just don't really know what you're going to get sometimes.
“We want to play different teams, but you've got to take what you can get.”
