Women's Report | Wolves 6-0 Derby County

Wolves 6 (Worsey 9, 33, 43 Greengrass 26 OG 29 Hughes 50) Derby 0

Wolves Women netted six in a dominant victory over Derby County Women at the SEAH Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Louanne Worsey netted a first-half hat-trick, while Charlotte Greengrass’ strike and an own goal sent Wolves into the break five to the good.

Amber Hughes’ strike five minutes after the interval wrapped up the scoring and concluded a superb display to add three more points to the league tally.

Dan McNamara named an unchanged lineup from the long, but successful trip to Middlesbrough last weekend, and the home side wasted no time before imposing themselves on this contest. Hughes and Greengrass combined, allowing the latter to strike at goal, but her effort resulted in a corner.

Worsey then watched her headed effort tipped onto the crossbar, just minutes before the winger pounced on Jones’ parried save and slotted calmly into the bottom corner to break the deadlock in the ninth minute.

The hosts continued with sustained pressure and doubled their advantage inside 25 minutes. A loose ball dropped inside the six-yard-box, before Greengrass was quickest to react and steer home.

Minutes later, Wolves extended their lead to three when Beth Roberts swung in a dangerous ball, proving too difficult for the Derby defence to deal with as Yasmin Mason turned the ball over her own goalline.

Wolves were rampant and added to the scoreline eight minutes later. Chloe Williams sprayed a perfect cross-field pass into the path of Worsey, who made no mistake off the volley and found the back of the net.

Worsey completed her first-half hat-trick three minutes shy of the interval, when she met another Harkin back-post delivery and headed high into the top corner.

Katie Oakley registered the visitors’ first shot of the game on the stroke of half-time, but Alex Brooks comfortably gathered to maintain the clean sheet heading into the break.

Half-Time | Wolves 5-0 Derby

Wolves emerged with the same intent and almost further extended the lead within five minutes of the restart. Williams broke free down the right flank and flashed a shot across goal, but the wrong side of the post.

Just shy of the hour mark, Wolves had their sixth of the afternoon. It was almost Becky Anderson’s, but her effort from range crashed off the crossbar, leaving Hughes to pick up the pieces and find the net from close range.

Substitute Beth Merrick then tested Jones on two occasions, first with a powerful free-kick, but the Derby shot stopper was equal to the effort. Moments later, the winger drove infield and swung an effort goalwards, but Jones was well positioned to deny a seventh goal.

Wolves remained hungry for more goals, and the substitutes certainly provided the energy boost. Racheal Quigley came close to a seventh, but Jones got down well to turn the strike away to safety.

The game began to fizzle out approaching stoppage time, and Wolves were forced to settle for just the six goals after a dominant performance.
