Worsey | 'Winning is our main focus'

Louanne Worsey was delighted to contribute a goal and an assist to Wolves Women’s 2-0 win over Halifax, which continued the team’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

The forward has been in impressive form since her move to the club in the summer, and her contributions to Sunday’s victory saw the team make it three wins from three during a seven-day stint.

With a strong squad this season pushing once again for the league title, Worsey is hoping the team can continue their positive performances as they turn their attention to the League Cup next weekend.

On three points at Halifax

“I’m over the moon. I think the girls played a really professional performance. Coming of the back of a three-game week, it’s obviously really hard and some girls are going to feel tired at the backend of the week.

“But it was a really good performance, a top performance, from us to finally get that last three points at the end of the week.”

On scoring early

“100 per cent, that was always the focus. Obviously getting as many goals as possible and trying to put the game to bed as quickly as possible, and I think we really did that at the start of the game, getting those two goals was massive for us.

“Then keeping that performance going towards the end of the game – that was the main focus.”

On breaking down the Halifax defence

“Halifax are a really good side. They sat off a little bit, which is as expected, so if you’re going to go two goals up very early on, we expected that and we carried on putting in our performance and didn’t change what we did.

“We tried to break them down as much as possible, but I thought the girls were terrific and put in a really professional performance. Then right at the end, getting the three points, that’s the main focus.”

On three wins in a week

“The winning is just our main focus. Everyone knows how hard a three-game week is, so to come out of the end of it with three points and three wins, that was the main thing for us.

“Then going into the next games next week, it’s not a three-game week, so we can rest, we can recuperate with the group and try and get that win next week.

“To be fair, the graft that we all put in, we’re bound to be tired and have tired legs after the hard three games we’ve had, so it’s to be expected. But we’re going to have a rest, recuperate and go again.”

On the support of the Wolves fans

“They’re always our 12th man, they’re always behind us, and the girls are always very appreciative of it.

“Everywhere they come, they come home and away, and they really push us over the line – especially on weeks like these.”
