Dan McNamara praised the professional display produced by his Wolves Women side in Sunday’s 2-0 FAWNL Northern Premier Division win over Halifax.
Wolves ended a three-game week with three more points following wins over Rugby Borough in the FA Cup and Sporting Khalsa in a midweek league fixture, as two goals inside the opening eight minutes from Amber Hughes and Louanne Worsey continued an unbeaten start to the season.
McNamara believes his players should be really proud of their performance against a difficult Halifax side, especially off the back of a busy week, and hopes they continue their momentum into the League Cup visit to AFC Sudbury this weekend.
On three points on the road
“Halifax have proved over the last few weeks that this is a tough place to come. They play it really well, it’s a tight little astroturf, and I’m really pleased with the girls and really proud of the performance.
“We were clinical in the two moments we needed to be, created other things throughout the game, probably should have gone to three or four, but I’m delighted overall.
“It was a really professional performance in the second half, and we take the points and move on.”

On scoring twice inside eight minutes
“We seem to be starting quick, which is brilliant. But the goals really pleased me because they were things we’d been working on in training.
“There were some areas we felt that we could exploit Halifax, certainly the second one, and the girls have done that. So I’m delighted to be getting back on the bus with the three points because it’s a really tough place to come.
“It’s one of them which you mark in the calendar as one where you know it’s going to be a tough battle, but it’s brilliant to be getting on the bus with the three points.”
On three wins in a week
“We’ve got players on the pitch all this week and the girls have shown real professionalism this week to come through a really tough start against Rugby, a banana skin against Sporting Khalsa and then to travel all the way here and get three points, the squad has certainly been utilised.
“They’ve been outstanding in training, the way they’ve recovered, the way they’ve prepared their bodies to be able to go again, and next week is not different.”
On a trip to Sudbury on Sunday
“This game will close the next chapter of the season – we always try to chunk it down, and try not to get too far ahead of ourselves in regards to planning, so that’s the next phase of the league sorted and we now move on to an important game in the cup.
“We want to get through into the latter round of this competition, and that involves a long jaunt down to Sudbury, but the girls will be ready to do that next weekend and we’re excited to test ourselves against a team we haven’t come up against before.”
