Women's report | Wolves 6-0 Liverpool Feds

Wolves 6 (Toussaint 19, Hughes 21, Morphet 25, Quigley 84, 90+9, Greengrass 88) Liverpool Feds 0

Wolves Women displayed a dominant performance against Liverpool Feds at the SEAH Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In their final game of the season, the result meant that the Old Gold finished second in the league table, losing just one game throughout a 22-game season and narrowly missing out on the title to Nottingham Forest by three points.

Dan McNamara’s side started the fixture no differently to any other, and that was being on the front foot from the first whistle.

In her final game for the club, Destiney Toussaint was first to inspire Wolves going forward when her headed effort was cleared off the line by Seren Carrington.

Bec Thomas was called into the action when Liv Francis advanced past her marker, but her low drilled strike was not enough to beat Wolves’ number 13.

Toussaint marked her final appearance with a special goal; after delicately bringing the ball down on her chest, she swivelled and unleashed a ferocious volley towards goal which found the back of the net.

Wolves were relentless and added two goals in quick succession. Firstly, Amber Hughes netted her 21st goal of the campaign with a neat finish past Rachael Norney and a fantastic long-range free kick from captain Anna Morphet gave McNamara’s side a three-goal cushion at the break.

Half-time | Wolves 3-0 Liverpool Feds

The second period proved to be more challenging for Wolves due to a stop start game and extended delays due to injuries – the visitors were still proving their worth as they probed the Wolves defence but failed to break through.

Substitute Abi Loydon progressed well into the game and latched onto the end of a teasing cross, but her effort narrowly drifted wide of the post.

McNamara’s side showed their maturity in the closing stages with their game management on show despite moments of pressure from the visitors.

Racheal Quigley came off the bench to add another goal for Wolves, as Morphet’s teasing cross was perfect for the Australian to tap the ball into an empty net.

Charlotte Greengrass slotted home her 22nd goal of the season, which confirmed the forward as the joint top goalscorer in the league, receiving the golden boot alongside Mel Johnson of Forest.

Quigley rounded off a comfortable victory when she found the top corner deep into additional time to wrap up a memorable campaign.
