Edozie | 'You dream of moments like this'

Tom Edozie experienced a senior Wolves debut to remember after the academy youngster came off the bench in the final moments to score the crucial goal to earn his side a point against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Called up from off the bench with less than 10 minutes remaining to make his inaugural outing for the first-team, the 19-year-old found the ball at his feet – 20 yards out from goal – in added time and hit a sweet strike which took a deflection and nestled into the back of the net off the post.

After securing his side a point at Molineux, Edozie could not believe his senior debut had ended in such incredible fashion and a moment which will live with him for the rest of his life.

On a dream Wolves debut

“When you’re playing football as a kid, you dream of moments like this. I’m just thankful for even being put on the pitch for the first time, and it’s a dream come true. Hopefully it will be my goal, but it’s still a dream come true.

“It means the world to me. I’ve played football my whole life for this moment. I’ve trained hard as a kid, so to score on my Premier League debut is just a feeling that I can’t describe.

“It's a dream come true. Getting my debut is one thing and then scoring on my debut is another. Just so thankful, just so happy.

“I can’t really put it into words what’s happened. I’m just full of different emotions, but I’m just so excited to get a goal and be happy to make my Premier League debut. I have so many different emotions right now.”

On scoring his first senior goal

“As I was watching the game I saw it was becoming a bit tense and we had more control of the ball than before, so I knew that going into the last couple minutes of the game it was going to be more end-to-end. I just tried to do as best as I can and luckily I scored.

“The ball dropped to me and just trying to keep it as low as people and just as hard as I can. They couldn't stop it, so it was my goal.

“100 per cent, I'll take the goal. Definitely my goal.”

On the emotions of a debut strike

“When the ball came to me, I just thought I had to keep it as low as possible, as hard as I can, and hopefully I would score.

“As soon as I saw it go into the back of the net, I just celebrated it regardless. It’s a goal whatever happened, so I was just happy to make it 2-2.

“Nothing was really going through my head, it was just loads of different emotions. I was so happy to be there when the fans were cheering. Something I dream of.”

On getting called off the bench

“When the gaffer said my name, I wasn’t sure he had even said my name, but as soon as I knew he’d said it, my heart just started beating. Obviously, I got a bit nervous. My legs started to shake a little bit.

“But I just got myself ready and I was raring to go. I just wanted to get on the pitch and do what I can to help the team and as soon as I got on that pitch, I was raring to go.

“It was definitely tough conditions to come onto, and I had to adjust quite quickly. But I knew I just had to keep going.

“There are just no words for it. I’m full of different emotions. I cannot explain how much it means.”

On making an impact

“I haven’t been part of the first-team for long, but I’ve been watching them closely and they’ve been working so hard, so I’m just thankful that I’ve been able to help them to get a draw out of the game and hopefully continue it for the rest of the season.

“I’ve been on the bench for a couple of weeks, so my family have been here for the last few games, but my dad managed to get tickets to this one, so he’ll be going nuts.

“It’s a moment which will live with me forever, definitely.”
