Man United 1 (Zirkzee 27) Wolves 1 (Krejci 45)
Wolves ended 2025 by bringing their record-breaking losing Premier League streak to an end with a well-deserved point on the road against Manchester United.
Rob Edwards’ men produced a performance which was resolute in defence, but also showed glimpses of attacking quality as Ladislav Krejci’s header just before half-time secured just a third point of the season.
The visitors did go behind just before the half hour mark in unfortunate circumstances as Joshua Zirkzee’s shot from the edge of the box took a heavy deflection to wrong foot Jose Sa, but the Old Gold battled back strongly and got the equaliser they craved through Krejci.
The second half saw opportunities for both teams to claim all three points, but in the end, Wolves saw out a difficult year with a positive point from Old Trafford.
With a quick turnaround for Edwards’ side from the visit to Anfield three days previously, the head coach made just two enforced changes to his side, and the team defended well during the opening 25 minutes.
Matheus Cunha was trying his hardest to cause trouble for his former side, but the visitors dealt with the Brazilian well during an entertaining first half at Old Trafford.
United had the best of the opportunities, with Benjamin Sesko missing several chances to beat Sa, firstly firing an effort narrowly across the Portuguese’s goal, while also sending a header straight at the goalkeeper.
Wolves had chances of their own to open the scoring, with Hee Chan Hwang getting behind the best one, as he curled an effort just over Senne Lammens’ crossbar.
Moments later, Hwang lost possession midway inside the Wolves half as he looked to break, and United made the visitors pay, with the ball finding its way to Zirkzee whose deflected effort from the edge of the box sending the diving Sa the wrong way.
The blue Wolves shirts battled hard to try and get themselves back in the contest, with Hwang once again firing off target, and Tolu Arokodare heading over the bar. But United could have doubled their lead with Patrick Dorgu’s deflected effort just missing the target before Sesko turned the resulting corner onto the post.
But as the game reached the final five minutes of the half, Wolves lay siege to the United goal, with Hugo Bueno bringing a smart save from Lammens’ legs as he tried to sneak the ball in from a tight angle, before Mateus Mane’s strike from the rebound was pounced upon by the home keeper.
However, Wolves’ pressure finally told on the stroke of half time, as Bueno’s corner wasn’t cleared by the United bodies at the near post, and the ball fell kindly to an unmarked Krejci at the far post and he planted his powerful header back across goal and inside the far post, giving Wolves a deserved equalising goal before the half was up.
Half-time | Man United 1-1 Wolves
Man United came out the stronger side following the break, with Cunha firing an effort high over the crossbar, before Sesko saw another header saved by Sa, while Dalot was unable to find the target from another headed effort.
Yerson Mosquera came close to putting past his own goal for the third time this season when he headed an innocuous cross back to Sa, without realising his keeper was out of his goal, but Sa did excellently to scramble back and claw the ball away from crossing the line.
Mosquera almost put the ball in the net at the other end moments later when a cross was flicked on by Matt Doherty to Krejci, but his shot was saved by Lammens, only for the rebound to be turned narrowly off target by the Colombian defender.
Wolves frustrated their hosts as the game progressed towards full-time, and showed their battling qualities to almost notch a winning goal. Jackson Tchatchoua was played into space down the right but after picking out Jhon Arias with a cross, a deflected shot which looked to be heading towards goal flew just wide of the post.
United thought they had scored the winner on the stroke of 90 minutes, but the offside flag came to Wolves' rescue. Cunha slipped in Sesko who saw his shot palmed away by Sa, but only as far as Dorgu who smashed it in from close range. However, the United man came onto the rebound from an offside position.
With time running out, Wolves were the side pushing for a second goal, but the full-time whistle meant the points were shared in Manchester. Â
