Tolu Arokodare described a feeling of familiarity at the Emirates on Saturday night as, not for the first time this season, Wolves conceded at the death to drop points.
The Nigerian had come off the bench to score his first Premier league goal at league leaders Arsenal, and at the time that 90th minute header appeared to be earning Wolves an unlikely but deserved point.
However, a second own goal of the night, three minutes into added time, dashed the significance of the attacker’s goal and left him cutting a disappointed figure when the final whistle was blown.
On a cruel, late twist
“It's hurtful. It's been happening to us the whole season. We played the whole 90 minutes very well, and at the end we always concede. I don't know how to explain it, but it's just very hurtful.
“It's been happening to us the whole of the season. It's not the first time we've conceded in the last minute, and I think it's something we have to work on, staying focused until the to the last whistle. It’s very unlucky for us, a good goal from them, and I would say a little bit of poor defending from us.”
On the positives to take
“Of course, there are a lot of positive things to take. We played against the best team in the league, they’re top of the table, and their first goal was from a corner kick – very lucky. We came back, and they also scored a last-minute goal.
“There are a lot of positives to take from this game. We focus on the good and not the bad. We go to play against Brentford, and hopefully we get the win.”
On his first Premier League goal
“We obviously have to score more. We haven't scored a lot of goals in the last few games, and it's something we've been working on. We did have a couple of chances in the second half, and we have that quality of scoring goals, but we haven't been lucky, attacking or defending, and hopefully in the coming games we'll score more goals, and everything will change.”
