Fer Lopez is promising to get the Wolves supporters off their seats as he prepares to make his Premier League debut at home to Manchester City on Saturday.
The Spaniard was Vitor Pereira’s first summer signing where he reunited with former Celta Vigo teammate Jorgen Strand Larsen in gold and black, and with the opportunity to step out in the English top flight for the first time this weekend, Lopez is excited to show his new supporters what he can do.
On his first month at Wolves
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s obviously a big change, moving here alone to a different country, a different culture, but so far, all the staff and my teammates have treated me very well. It’s only been one month since I since I joined, but I’ve been very good here and I feel at home now.
“Having the opportunity to play in the Premier League and to play for a club like Wolves – a very familiar club where there’s a lot of passion from the fans – I think that’s quite similar [to Celta Vigo] and also the gaffer has a lot of confidence in me.”
On reuniting with Strand Larsen
“It’s obviously a plus knowing him and knowing that I was not going to be 100% alone here because I knew him, but obviously it wasn’t the main factor in my decision to come here, but it was a nice touch to be here again with him.
“In training, he’s always getting my assists and I try to find him a lot. When I get the ball facing forwards, the first thing I try to do is find a pass for him. But obviously, if there’s another guy wide open then I will pass to them. I try to link up with him a lot, I like one-twos where I can burst into the spaces, but I try to find him a lot.”

On his role in the Wolves team
“At Celta, we played three-four-three and we play a similar system here, and I would start on the right, but I like to drift more central. Even though I started off the right, I wouldn’t consider myself as a right winger, more of an attacking midfielder, so it was a very similar position in a very similar system to what I’m playing here, so I’m very happy with my role here.
“For me, football is entertainment. I like players who take me off my seat and that’s what I will try to do to the Wolves fans. But obviously the main goal is to score goals, create chances for the team and to win games.
“But I like to be an exciting player and I think I learned that when I played futsal when I was small, also playing in the park with my friends, I spent a lot of time doing that, and enjoying football was something which was very important in my development.”
On playing against Celta last weekend
“It was nice that the game gave me a chance to say goodbye to Celta and also get an opportunity to play at Molineux for the first. It was my first time there and I was very excited to play there, although it was a shame we couldn’t win. But the important stuff starts now.”
On getting a first taste of the Premier League
“The Premier League is obviously going to be a lot more physical than La Liga. They’re too difference places – La Liga is a little bit calmer and more controlled with the ball, more tactical, and here is a lot more like ‘zoom, zoom’ all the time. I know I will need to adapt, because it’s a different league, but I will work as hard as possible to shrink the time it takes me to adapt.
“Obviously, the football here is very different, but the talent is incredible. You can see all the new signings, the other players, obviously talent-wise, we have a great team, and I think we’re going to do very good.”
On opening the season against Man City
“I’m a player who likes to play in those ‘big games’ and I think everyone enjoys those kinds of games more. Here, there’s a lot more big games than there were in Spain, because here you have the ‘big six’, but in Spain there were only two or three top teams. But playing in the big stadiums in the big games, I think everyone enjoys playing in them a lot, and I’m no different.
“Especially at home in front of the fans, it’s going to be very exciting. City are a top team, they’re one of the best teams in the world, with one of the best managers in the world in Pep Guardiola, and my main goal is to try to do as best as I can to help the team win.”
