Mosquera | 'I wanted to renew and play for Wolves'

Yerson Mosquera says he’s determined to repay the faith Wolves have put in him, after putting pen to paper on a new contract at Molineux.

The Colombian, who is recovering from a long-term injury layoff, has signed a new five-year contract at the club, and is now targeting a return to training in pre-season, knowing he has the full backing of his club.

Having held positive conversations with head coach Vitor Pereira, Mosquera is continuing to provide a positive influence on the group off the pitch, and is now itching to get back playing in front of the supporters of the club he’ll call home until 2030.

On extending his stay

“I'm really happy to stay with Wolves. It’s a really good opportunity, because I need to get back and I have another chance to play here. It was an easy decision for me, because from the first time I spoke with them, I wanted to stay here, I wanted to renew my contract because I want to play for Wolves.

“I went to the USA and Spain, so now it’s difficult to play here because I didn’t have a lot of chances with my injury. When I first came, I got the injury as well, and now I have another opportunity to improve myself.”

On battling back to fitness

“It's really hard, the situation of the injury, the first two or three weeks. After I made my mentality that I needed to be back quick, back strong, because it's a real challenge. Now, I feel more comfortable, happier, so I'm alright now.

“I'm very appreciative of the club, because they’re giving me another opportunity. I know it's not easy to do this in my situation, but they believe in me, that is the most important thing. I will be back stronger, for sure, I promise the Wolves supporters, the club, and I will give 100 per cent when I’m back.”

On his journey with Wolves

“I want to play, that's my focus, my motivation. I put my head on recovering well, because I need to be back quickly to the pitch. It's really important when you love to play. You want to play always.

“I was in Spain and USA, and I had a good challenge there. But the most important for me is now I want to do my best performances here. I want to help the team. Now is the opportunity, I need to be back next season strong.”

On his connections at Compton Park

“The relationships are really good with everyone. They know I'm always happy. I want to inject my energy to them. That is really important, because I need to stay strong mentally. Everyone believes in me, they say good things for me, and that is really good.

“I know the situation for the club was not good, but the important thing is enjoying what you’re doing. It’s easier to help them, put my energy into joking with them, which is really important to the team.

“I know the moment is not a perfect one, but we need to stay positive about the situation. We know we have good players, we have a good staff, we have a good coach to do good performances. After we will do excellent games, and we will be much better in the table.”

On looking forward to playing under Pereira

“He trusts me. He says to recover well, be calm, don’t rest too much. That is really important for the players, not just for me, for the other injured players, because you feel confidence from the coach and that is really good. He is a very, very good coach. I see the plans for everyone. That's the most important thing now, we need to stay together we need to support the group, and after everything it will be go better.”

On looking forward to the future

“I'm happy because the sensation is amazing when you’re back on the pitch. Now, I need to stay focused, I need to be careful, because my injury was really big, but now I feel confident, I feel really good and I'll take my time to be back.”
