Lemina | 'The fans and us are back together'

Mario Lemina believes Sunday’s performance reformed a connection between players and supporters, following the disappointment at Brentford.

Two weeks earlier the Old Gold were well beaten in London, before responding with a positive display, which came so close to earning a point from champions Manchester City. It wasn’t to be after City’s late winner at Molineux, but the Wolves skipper believes the dressing room should take heart from the performance, moving on to the next challenge at Brighton & Hove Albion.

On a performance full of effort

“We're proud of our performance against the biggest team in the world. Sometimes it's about details. They believe until the end and they scored in the last second of the game. We'd been quite compact and you could see we were back to our togetherness.

“We tried to really work hard to get the fans with us and I think we deserved better in the end. We're going to go back to work, and I think it was a good game for us to get back to what they belong.”

On the focus on Wolves

“I don't like to talk about VAR or referees, it’s not my thing. I just talk about how good we were against a tough opponent. Defensively, we did really well. I'm really proud of the guys. The game plan was good and we had some contract attacks we could like do better with.

“Obviously, they're a good team, they created chances and tried to score, and I had to say thank you to Jose. He made some amazing saves, as well. We need to beat from that and try to level up as a team and work really hard.”

On using the performance as momentum

“We were proud. Disappointed, of course, but still proud, because made a really big performance. I think the crowd believe in our quality, our togetherness, and I feel that the fans and us are back together, and we want to make them proud, and I hope next week we're going to have some joy.”
