Three Points On Offer

Wolves host 11th-placed Preston North End at Molineux on Sunday for the final game of the Sky Bet Championship season.

Batth says that the game is an opportunity to get three points and a chance for the players to impress Head Coach Paul Lambert before next season.

He said, “There are three points on offer, there will hopefully be a good crowd and it’s another opportunity to impress the manager for next season.

“We’ve all just got to play better, it’s pretty simple. When things are going badly, we need to try and dig ourselves out of it quicker and and then move forward.

“The manager speaks about making changes player-wise, and I feel as a group of players we can perhaps address issues a bit quicker off the pitch and make sure that we’re ready come match day.

“There are a lot of players here, and there are a lot of players that haven't played that much.

“Perhaps having a more competitive group would raise the standards.

“Preston are a physical and hard-working side, I watched then not long ago and I thought they were dangerous on the counter-attack, so you’ve got to be careful with an away team coming to Molineux.

“There’s no reason for them to come at us, they can sit back and and wait for us - we’ve got to be ready for that.

“The game isn't played on paper, it’s going to be 11v11 and it’s hopefully going to be entertaining.

“Hopefully we’ll enjoy the last game of the season, it should be an opportunity for the players to play without any pressure and it will be a way to say thank you to the fans for their support because the fans at home haven't had much to really celebrate.

“A good performance would be a nice way to lead into next season.”

The 26-year-old club captain reveals that the relationship he has with the manager is good and he feels that he is doing what is expected of a captain.

He admits that Wolves have had ups and downs throughout the season, but he remains optimistic on the prospects for next season.

“It’s been a case of two steps forward and one step back at times, that can happen when a new manager comes in with a group of players that he hasn't had much of a say on,” Batth said.

“He’s tried things and we’ve experimented - this manager’s done it before and got out of the division and he obviously knows what it takes.

“I’m always positive in myself - as a player, you’ve always got to be confident in your own ability and make sure that you come back in the best shape that you can be.

“You need to make sure that you're hungry for it and go from there really.

“The Gaffer and myself have spoken at length about different things on and off the pitch, I know what to expect and what he expects of me to do with the dressing room.

“I think he’s been pretty happy with the way that I’ve conducted myself off and on the pitch - it’s been a good relationship so far.

“We have got a big squad, it’s important to keep the discipline and make sure that the lads are on the front foot all of the time and making sure that they're going into games with everything prepared properly.

“If the gaffer needs a second opinion, he can comfortably ask me or any of the other senior boys.”
