Ikeme, who has made 31 appearances for Wolves in the league this season, missed the games against Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City through injury.
When asked about the goalkeeper's progress ahead of Friday's Sky Bet Championship clash against the Seagulls, Lambert replied: “Carl will struggle again. It’s not moving as much as we thought it would be.
“It’s slow at the minute. But I’m more than happy with Andy Lonergan, I think he’s done really well for us, he made a great save on Saturday (against Bristol City).
"Losing Carl is a blow because he’s been excellent for us, but we can’t speed it up then we can’t speed it up.”
Helder Costa has also been a recent admission from the Wolves squad through injury, missing the last two outings.
But Lambert feels more positive about the winger's involvement on Friday. He said: “Hopefully he’ll be okay, he’s been a big player for us.
“You can’t risk him, he’s one of those kids that at 100 per cent he’s bang on it and ready for it."
