Wolves 0
Swansea City 4 (Routledge 12, 62, Naughton 59, McBurnie 84)
Thanks to the efforts of goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfelt, Swansea went into the break a goal to the good against Wolves in this Molineux friendly.
But the Premier League side displayed their pedigree in the second half to score another three without reply in front of onlooking new coach, Walter Zenga.
With coach Rob Edwards taking charge of the team for the game, Wolves kicked-off attacking the North Bank end and inside two minutes Niall Ennis jinked his way into the box and forced a great save from Nordfelt who dived low to his left to turn the ball behind.
Ennis figured again when he turned and put Jack Price through on a run at goal but Stephen Kingsley managed to get a foot in to divert the ball to Nordfelt who booted clear.
Swansea won a 12th minute corner taken by Nathan Dyer and it led to them moving into the lead. Jack Cork’s near post header flew across the face of goal and when the ball was returned to Dyer his cross fell to Wayne Routledge and from 15-yards he found the far top corner of the net giving Carl Ikeme no chance.
A Wolves corner presented half a chance of an equaliser. James Henry’s kick landed in the heart of the area and the ball was bouncing around until Dominic Iorfa took possession on the far side of goal and played it back to Danny Batth. But the skipper’s attempt to find the net was blocked at close quarters.
Iorfa went down and required treatment after a foul but innocuous looking tackle by Leroy Fer. He hobbled back onto the field but seconds after Dyer had stroked as shot narrowly wide of the far post, the defender limped off to be replaced by Hakeem Odoffin.
Two minutes before the break, Ennis shrugged off the attentions of Federico Fernandez and went on what would have been a clear run towards goal until the Argentinian defender clearly pulled the Molineux youngster back a couple of yards outside the area.
In a competitive match it would undoubtedly have been a straight red but on this occasion the referee did nothing more than award the free-kick. And that almost reaped dividends with Nordfelt pulling off a stunning save to tip over Henry’s curling free-kick that had ‘goal’ written all over it.
In stoppage time Matt Doherty’s through ball left Jed Wallace in the clear but Nordfelt spread himself to save his side once again.
Half-Time; Wolves 0 Swansea 1
Wolves made three changes at the interval with Ben O’Hanlon, Conor Coady and Dave Edwards replacing Batth, Price and Lee Evans.
Five minutes into the half Edwards got in a powerful header following a cross from Henry but the ball flew straight into the arms of Nordfelt.
Two Swansea goals in the space of three minutes then took the game away from Wolves. The first, in the 59th minute, came after a neat piece of ball-work by Kyle Naughton who beat Doherty and then, from the tightest of angles on the by-line, threaded the ball past Ikeme.
Routledge then scored his second of the afternoon when he steered the ball home at the far post after a good run and cross from Mo Barrow.
Edwards almost reduced the deficit when he turned and swung at the ball but once more, Nordfelt was in the right place to make a comfortable save.
Oliver McBurnie wrapped up the scoring for the afternoon in the 84th minute hitting a low drive into the far corner after more good work from Barrow had created the opportunity.
