Hiking Heroes hit the fundraising summit

The intrepid team of Hiking Heroes who completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge earlier this summer raised a fantastic £16,310 For Wolves Foundation and Compton Care.

A group of 27 supporters of the two charities took on the 24-mile circular route challenge, starting with the first climb of the day on Pen y Ghent, followed by scaling Whernside, and then the last climb of the day, Ingleborough.

Despite some hugely variable weather conditions, from sweltering sun to incessant downpours, it was an experience to be enjoyed alongside raising vital funds for the two local charities.

Foundation fundraising and events executive Laura Cahill, whom, alongside Jeanette Walker and Matt Elcock was one of three members of Foundation staff to take on the challenge, said: “This year’s Hiking Heroes challenge proved an extremely testing one, not just with the distance involved and reaching the three summits, but also spells of extreme weather.

“It took a real team effort with everyone encouraging each other to keep going through the day, but also provided a fantastic experience for everyone taking part.

“I think a big motivation for all of us was knowing just what an impact the funds raised will have on the work delivered by Wolves Foundation and Compton Care, and we just want to thank everyone who took part, or made a donation.”

Emily Thompson, from Compton Care, added: “We were really excited to be collaborating with Wolves Foundation again this year and offering people the chance to scale these three peaks.

“This year’s Hiking Heroes challenge really pushed participants to their limits, with a demanding route that included three summit climbs in some quite harsh weather conditions.

“Despite the physical and mental hurdles, everyone showed incredible resilience and spirit.

“It was a real test but the support of everyone taking part made all the difference - we kept each other going, and that turned a tough day into an unforgettable experience.

“The challenge created lasting memories for everyone involved as well as raising fund for two amazing causes.”

Funds raised from the challange will be shared equally between Compton Care, which provides specialist palliative and bereavement support to people with life limiting conditions and their families, and Wolves Foundation, Wolves’ official charity, which delivers over 45 unique projects to people of all ages and abilities in the aim of creating opportunities and changing lives.
