Preview | Wolves vs Brighton

It’s back at Molineux for Wolves, who are searching for that first Premier League win of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, and here’s everything you need to know.

1 | Roll Call

Vitor Pereira must do without Matt Doherty for the visit of Brighton, with the Irishman suffering a broken wrist at Bournemouth in August and playing on in recent weeks, but surgery this week rules him out of Sunday. Captain Toti has the flu, while Jorgen Strand Larsen is still “not 100 per cent”, so both must be assessed pre-match. Beyond that, Jackson Tchatchoua replaced Doherty at Tottenham Hotspur, so will be an option to replace him, likewise Rodrigo Gomes and Ki-Jana Hoever.

Brighton will travel to the West Midlands without Joel Veltman, who picked up an injury at Stamford Bridge last weekend. Winger Karou Mitoma is being checked daily to monitor a foot injury he also suffered against Chelsea. Danny Welbeck scored twice off the bench, so will be eyeing a starting role at Molineux. Elsewhere, the Seagulls will continue without injured trio Adam Webster, Solly March, and Jack Hinshelwood.

3 | Journey to Sunday

Wolves are entering Sunday with an improved mindset after positive results against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. After beating the Toffees in the Carabao Cup, the Old Gold were minutes from a first Premier League victory after Santiago Bueno’s first Wolves goal at Spurs, only for the hosts to claim a late point. In the league, Vitor Pereira’s side have lost their three Premier League outings at Molineux, against Manchester City, Everton and Leeds United, so will be looking to change that against Brighton.

The Seagulls benefitted from a Chelsea red card to turn defeat into victory at Chelsea last weekend. That Stamford Bridge success was Brighton’s first away from home in the Premier League this term, after defeats at Everton and Bournemouth. So far, Fabian Hurzeler's side have won two, drawn two and lost two. At the Amex they’ve impressively beaten Manchester City and drawn with Spurs, and the 3-1 victory from a goal behind got them off the mark away from home last weekend.

4 | Late Molineux drama

Wolves’ Molineux record against Brighton has been poor in recent years, with the Old Gold last taking three points from the Seagulls on home soil back in May 2021. During the closing stages of the lockdown era, Lewis Dunk had put Albion ahead at an empty Molineux.

However, when the Brighton skipper was sent off for pulling back Fabio Silva, the game turned and Adama Traore levelled for the hosts with 14 minutes remaining.

It was then left for Morgan Gibbs-White to strike the winner in injury time – his first Premier League goal for the club – in Nuno Espirito Santo’s penultimate Molineux match in charge of the Old Gold.

Wolves | Patricio, Hoever, Coady, Kilman, Ait-Nouri, Neves (Traore 61), Moutinho, Vitinha (Dendoncker 77), Gibbs-White, Podence (Jose 70), Silva.
