Wolves Women secured their second successive win in five days with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Burnley to continue their strong start to WSL 2.
Three goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half from Amber Hughes, Mel Filis, and Anna Morphet pushed Dan McNamara’s side up to second in the table - until Sunday at least - ahead of this weekend's fixtures.
Following a positive start for the hosts, the first chance of the game fell to Chloe Williams, who latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the area before firing narrowly wide of the post.
Whilst the Old Gold threatened from open play, it was the away side who created the first chance from a set piece as Jessica Hennessy saw her free header blocked by her own teammate Tyler Toland.
Despite an even first half, Dan McNamara’s side opened the scoring through Hughes heading in from close range, although the plaudits go to Lawley after excellent wing play and cross in.
It was a matter of minutes before Wolves doubled their lead, as the goal scorer Hughes knocked it down into Filis, before a wicked deflection from the Burnley defender spilt the ball into the net.
Morphet was able to add a third just before the break straight from the spot, following Yana Daniëls being brought down by Burnley full-back Emma Siddall, topping off a superb end to the half for Wolves.

The first chance of the second half went to Jackie Bachteler’s side as Alethea Paul’s left-footed free-kick from a tricky angle clipped the top of the crossbar, although Emily Orman in the net looked like she had it covered despite the close attempt.
Pressure kept mounting on the Wolves net at the start of the second half with an audacious attempt from Brenna McPartlan almost catching out Orman in the net, however the 23-year-old tipped the ball over the bar.
Whilst Burnley tried to find a way back into the game for the second 45, Wolves remained organised and focussed throughout, limiting clear-cut chances and controlling the tempo.
Wolves will have their sights set on three league wins in a row next Sunday as they head to the Jobserve Community Stadium to play Ipswich Town.
