Cesar Peixoto is confident that the goals will come for Wolves, given the chances his team have created in recent games.
The Old Gold are heading north to Burnley after back-to-back defeats and with just one goal scored in that period, but created plenty of chances, especially against Bolton Wanderers in midweek, which is giving the head coach comfort.
Although he’ll do without the injured Adam Armstrong at Turf Moor, Peixoto insisted in Thursday’s press conference that he has full faith in his squad, and has called on his players to regain their clinical edge in front of goal to help turn the Old Gold’s fortunes around.
On Armstrong missing the trip
“Adam has a problem with his back, so he isn’t going to play tomorrow. He’s going to have treatment, but we think he’ll be ready for the next game. The Championship is like that and we have to manage the players’ minutes. That’s why I’ve always spoken about wanting two players for every position, so we can rotate the team in these moments.
“We have confidence in all the players. Across these three games, almost everybody will play, and next week we have another three games. We have to manage the minutes to avoid more injuries. Adam is one of the players who’s played the most, so we have to manage him too.”
On the need for goals
“We didn’t have problems scoring goals until the last two games. We’d scored a lot of goals before that and we’re going to score again. In the last game, we created a lot of chances but didn’t score. I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating those chances.
“We don’t have time to train at the moment. It’s recover, play, recover, play. If we had more weeks to work, it would be different. If we had more options available, it would be different too. We can adapt some things, but not our whole idea of playing. I don’t believe in doing that.”

On overcoming difficult situations
“It’s a difficult moment. We have to be clear about that. The injuries, the defeats and the time we have to recover the players make it difficult. We have to manage the players so they’re physically ready for three games close together, and next week we have another three games. But these moments happen during a season.
“We’ve played nine games and we still have another 37 to go. There are a lot of games. In these moments, we have to stay together, adapt where we need to and fight with the players who are ready.
“I don’t want to talk too much about the problems. I have to manage them, find solutions and try to win games. I always look at things positively. It’s an opportunity for players to show their quality. It’s also a moment for me to see what the whole squad can offer this season. If we get through this difficult period, I think things will go in the right direction again. I don’t have any doubts about that.”
On the need for experience
“Kieran a captain and a very experienced player. He’s a key player for us, both on and off the pitch. The way he trains, the way he speaks and the respect his teammates have for him are all very important. It’s the same with Raul. These players are important not only when they’re playing, but also when they’re off the pitch.
“John Ruddy is another important player in these moments. We have a young team, and these experienced players can help everyone stay calm during games and difficult periods. They can speak with their teammates in the dressing room. I believe in this kind of leadership.
“I’m the leader, but I think inside the dressing room we need these players too. We need a balance between young and experienced players. Kieran is one of our most important players because of that.”

On Bellegarde off the mark
“I’m very happy for Bellegarde because we believe he’s an important player for us. He was injured, came back late from the World Cup and then, after only two training sessions, was injured again. I was very worried about the international break. I spoke with his national-team coach to try to manage his minutes, but he played more than we wanted.
“Fortunately, he came back without any problems. He’s an important player. Scoring a goal is good for his confidence and it’s good for the team. He’s also a player who can play in a lot of different positions. For a coach, having a clever, intelligent player who can play in three or four positions is amazing. Especially with the injuries we have, this kind of player is very important.”
