Goalkeeper Jose Sa has signed a new contract at Wolves which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
The Portugal international has now entered his sixth season at Molineux but was in the final year of his previous deal and now pens fresh terms which will see him add to his 174 Wolves appearances to date.
Sa first pitched up in Wolverhampton in July 2021 and enjoyed a fine first season under Bruno Lage, keeping 11 clean sheets and being voted Player of the Season by both the club’s supporters and his teammates.
The following two campaigns the stopper was an ever-present and was first handed the armband by Gary O’Neil in a win at Tottenham Hotspur in February 2024, and he’d later take the responsibility more regularly as one of the dressing room’s leaders.
Despite competition in recent years, Sa has continually been favoured between the sticks and has started the last matches matches under Cesar Peixoto, keeping his 41st clean sheet for the club against Sheffield Wednesday recently.
Technical director Matt Jackson said: “Jose has proved his level during his time at the club. He’s an international goalkeeper and is a big character in our dressing room, so is a huge asset for the football club.
“When a player is in the final year of his contract, it can be difficult for some. I don’t think Jose is necessarily one of those because he’s mentally tough and has seen everything in football, but he deserves a reward and the security it brings.
“This brings stability. We knew that we would be revamping the goalkeeping department and we really like how it’s ended up. It’s given Dan an opportunity to leave permanently and Sam desperately needed to play and has gone to a massive football club. Now we’ve got three really good, professional goalkeepers to a proven standard which we can build around this season.”
