Jordan James returns to St Andrew’s as a Wolves player for the first time this weekend, determined to take all three points from the stadium he called home for most of his career.
Having already made a great start at his new home thanks to a goal in the Molineux win over Stoke City last Saturday, James heads back to his old stomping ground on Sunday to face a Birmimgham City side where he spent his early 12 years at.
Although he is hopeful of a positive reception from the St Andrew’s crowd, James insists his mind will be fully focused on getting Wolves back to winning ways in their Championship campaign.
On settling in at Molineux
“It’s been good. Obviously, it’s been two weeks now, so I’ve got used to the lads and the coaching staff and how they want to play, so it’s been good.
“It’s also nice to be back home as it was a long six weeks out in France for pre-season, but I’m glad it got over the line and I’m really happy.
“I’m glad that I’m here now and that I’m ready to go. I probably wasn’t match-fit when I first came here, but over the past few games I’ve felt really good and I can’t wait to carry on what I’ve started.”
On making a new home in the Black Country
“I’ve moved here into Wolverhampton because it was probably just a bit too far for me to go back home [to Hereford], but I go there as often as possible. I’m a home boy, so I love my family and they give me a lot, so to be able to go back a lot really helps me mentally.
“I think I found that last year, coming back from France to Leicester. I was able to go home a lot more and you could see it in my performances. I was a lot happier and a lot safer in a way, knowing that my family were by my side constantly, and I was able to perform in the best way possible.
“I saw that, so that’s why I wanted to come back to England this year and hopefully I can do the same again.”
On scoring on his Molineux debut
“Obviously, any player wants to score their first goal at home on their home debut. It was right in front of my family as well, which was really nice.
“It was class. I’ve always wanted to score goals, and on your debut it’s even better because the fans obviously want to see what you’re about, what you’re good at and what you can improve on.
“I think I showed them a perfect example of my game – getting it deep, being able to play wide, getting in the box and scoring. That’s me to a tee. But it’s something that’s part of my game.
“It had been a tough six weeks for the family and for me, so I’m sure it was nice to repay that. It was nice to score, get the first one over the line and hopefully there will be many more to come and we’ll have a really good season this year.”

On returning to St Andrew’s
“It’ll be a weird one. It was probably the first one that I looked for in the calendar because obviously I was there for so long. I was there since I was eight years old and they gave me the platform to perform at such a young age.
“I’m going to enjoy it, and it’ll be weird for the first five minutes, but I’m looking forward to it. I think my parents are looking forward to it as well, going back there after so many years playing for the club.
“Hopefully it’s a good game for us and we win the game, but it’ll be nice to see some familiar faces.”
On facing the Birmingham fans
“I don’t know what reception I’ll get, but I’m not too bothered. Hopefully it’s a good one because you always want a good one.
“I didn’t really leave on bad terms, and obviously I was there since I was eight years old, I’ve thanked the club massively and obviously I had a good relationship with the fans at the time, being homegrown.
“So hopefully I get a good reception, but if not, then we’ll see what happens.”
