Yerson Mosquera insists the Wolves squad are full of confidence and playing with smiles on their faces again after bringing pre-season to a close with a 3-0 win over Racing Santander at Molineux.
The Colombian defender topped off the scoring on Saturday afternoon as he headed home from Kieran Trippier’s corner, celebrating his goal with his jubilant teammates before dancing in front of the Wolves supporters in the South Bank.
As his celebration showed, Mosquera feels the squad is in a much happier place now following a difficult period at Molineux, and hopes this togetherness will help the team achieve their aims this season.
On ending pre-season on a high
“It has been really good for us because we worked for that. We prepared well for the games and it is really important to finish the pre-season like this because we will be starting the season next weekend.
“This is comfortable for us, we have to have our confidence very high and now we are ready for the next step.”
On celebrating in front of the South Bank
“Normally, I like to dance. Normally when I post something [on social media], I put ‘laughing is free’. It doesn’t cost anything. It’s my thing – I try to enjoy life and I try to dance always when I score.
“I love dancing with the other players and they like it as well. There’s a good energy from them and we have to enjoy life. That is the most important thing for me, and that is something we forget in football.
“I know it’s a job for us as well, but we have to enjoy what we’re doing, and we have to stay happy all the time. The supporters want to come here to watch very good games, and enjoy the football too, and we did today, and we will be doing it the next couple of games too.”
On the togetherness among the squad
“Everyone has worked really hard in the pre-season. It’s not a secret for anyone – we’ve just worked really hard and now we are ready for the season.
“I know the last season was really hard for us as well, but we are professional. We have to keep pushing and we have to put our faces up and try to give the best of ourselves in this season.
“We know it’s going to be a really hard season and we have many games, but we are ready to play these games.”

On playing in a back four
“This is different for us because we played different in the last season, but we are professional guys, professional players and we can play in the line of four or the line of five comfortably. We are ready for everything.
“I know it’s going to be pretty difficult, but we have a great focus, we are professional in everything we do to be our best selves in the positions.”
On opening the season against Port Vale on Friday
“It’s an amazing challenge. They have a good team as well, so we have to respect them.
“We know it’s a first game for us and we have to give 100% because we need to start our first game really good, and this is important for the season.”
