Report | Wolves 1-2 Real Sociedad

Wolves 1 (R Gomes 17) Real Sociedad 2 (Oskarsson 33, Lebarbier 83)

Rodrigo Gomes scored his first goal of pre-season on Saturday evening, and although Real Sociedad came back to win it late on, the friendly proved a useful exercise for Wolves in Walsall.

Pre-season opposition was upped with the visit of last season’s Copa del Rey winners, but Wolves started on the front foot and Tommy Doyle’s through ball to Gomes created the first opening, with Mateus Mane testing Unai Marrero in the Sociedad goal.

Cesar Peixoto’s hunger to see Wolves pressing from the front will have been on satisfied early on 17 minutes when the Old Gold forced a mistake out of the Sociedad from a goal kick and Gomes pounced to put his side ahead.

The lead didn’t last until the break however, as the visitors equalised. A ball over the top appeared to catch Sociedad offside, but play continued and Orri Oskarsson arrowed an equaliser into the corner, beyond Dan Bentley’s dive.

After the interview Wolves continued to be the side asking the questions – Mane curled an effort wide, while Kieran Trippier’s free-kick flew over the crossbar.

However, as changes were made to both sides, Sociedad won it as Alex Lebarbier pounced on a loose Pedro Lima touch and fired a clinical strike beyond Bentley from the edge of the box.

Wolves | Bentley, Trippier, Mosquera (Djiga 76), Toti, H Bueno (Tchatchoua 76), Andre, Doyle (Chirewa 73), Munetsi (Traore 76), Edozie (Armstrong 60), R Gomes (Lima 73), Mane.
