Jota: We can still achieve good things

Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage at the weekend, Diogo Jota is calling on his Wolves teammates to focus on ending their Premier League campaign on a high.

The forward admitted the extra time defeat to Watford at Wembley was a wasted opportunity for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, but attention will quickly turn to achieving Wolves’ best top-flight league position in almost 40 years.

On the semi-final defeat to Watford

ā€œWe did a very good game and were doing well, playing good and we were trying to defend the result. Ā Watford were doing their job, but the game was there for us.

ā€œThey were struggling when we were 2-0 ahead, but then the goal just happens. The first goal is an amazing goal, it’s a great goal and it gave hope to the opposite team.

ā€œOur defensive work was well done until then, but goals can all happen in different ways. We then gave away a penalty in the last minute.

ā€œUnfortunately for us they scored the two goals to take the game to extra time and they were better than us during extra time.ā€

On the feeling in the dressing room

ā€œIt was a short conversation. The manager said to us that we had a good chance which we wasted.

ā€œIt’s a bad feeling, the thought that we had the game in our hands, we had a chance to go to the final in our hands, and we wasted it in the last minutes – that feeling is not good.

ā€œWe all feel the same way, with our heads down, but now it’s time to think, because we had it. That’s the main thing; we had it in our hands and we gave it away.ā€

On finishing the season on a high

ā€œWe felt like we could’ve reached the final, but we are not there, so now we’re going to rest and then it’s time to think ahead to the Southampton game.

ā€œWe have time to focus on the last games and try to go game-by-game to win. We have got six games left to go and we can still achieve good things in the Premier League.ā€
