Selecting the players, games and kits from Old Gold history he deems to be the most underrated is writer and football historian, Paul Bowen.
Goalkeeper | Gary Pierce
At the club from 1973 to 1979, Gary Pierce helped Wolves to the Second Division title in 1977 by playing in every game, whilst previously had often interchanged with Phil Parkes. It was wonderful watching him at Wembley in the 1974 League Cup Final when some great saves underpinned a memorable Wolves’ victory.
Defender | Emlyn Hughes
Liverpool legend Emlyn Hughes joined Wolves in 1979 and had a superb season. His defensive and leadership skills proved vital as he captained Wolves to sixth place in the First Division. He also held the League Cup trophy aloft at Wembley in 1980, yet still awaits a call to the Hall of Fame.

Midfielder | Albert Fletcher
A skilful and pacy wing half with a strong character. From 1888 to 1891 he was a key Wolves player who helped the club to a third place and two fourth place League finishes as well as an FA Cup Final in 1889. Injury forced retirement, but he stayed on as a trainer.
Forward | Jimmy Johnston
On January 21st 1893, Wolves faced Bolton in a FA Cup first round away tie. Bolton went ahead in extra time but in the 120th minute winger Johnston scored to force a replay which Wolves won. Without his goal there would be no 1893 FA Cup Final match ball in the Wolves Museum.

Manager | Jack Lewis
As trainer, he arguably played a more important role in football management than Major Jack Addenbrooke in Wolves’ early Football League years. From 1889 until 1896, he helped the club to four top six finishes and three FA Cup finals including winning in 1893. He was influential in Wolves becoming an elite football force.
Match | Ferencvaros 2-2 Wolves, 1972
John Richards claimed an early goal in Budapest, but Ferencvaros scored twice in a dramatic few minutes. Wolves stepped up their play in the second half, but Phil Parkes’ 74th minute penalty save was crucial. Ten minutes from time, Frank Munro equalised and the draw proved vital, Wolves winning 2-1 at home and reaching the final.

Season | 1979/80
This was a great time for Wolves fans with enjoyable, entertaining games and attacking football. John Barnwell and Richie Barker inspired a Wolves team to League Cup success and a high position in the First Division with 19 wins! Nearly half a century later, no Wolves team since has matched their achievements.
Shirt | 1992/93 home
This radical design divided opinions. The crest with the wolf’s head is traditional, but the artwork is controversial with black patterns, blotches and all shades of gold. An iconic shirt, it was the first I ever bought my children from Cannock Market, but perhaps I am being too sentimental in my judgement!
