Cesar Peixoto says he is ready to “embrace the experience” of being Wolves manager when the 2026/27 campaign kicks off next week.
The Old Gold’s 2026/27 season gets underway next Friday, when Port Valve visit Molineux in the Carabao Cup, and on Wednesday Peixoto's side scored both of their goals at Doncaster Rovers by forcing mistakes from their opponent – the head coach’s clear idea.
One final pre-season test awaits this weekend, and having done his research on the club’s past, Peixoto is now hungry to get going and hopefully get the club back on track after a difficult season last time out.
On being in charge of Wolves
“It's a new experience, a new club, historic club, with three First Divisions, four FA Cups, two League Cups. I'm ready to embrace this experience, to do a good job here. I'm very confident in my work and in my technical staff.
“I'm very confident in the plan we have as a club to build a strong team, and I have the confidence we are going do a great season, I don't have doubts about that. We’re going to build a strong team to fight every minute, every ball, to win game after game. We’re going to fight and we want to make the fans proud of these players, proud of this team.”
On his messages to the group
“The training has a physical part, and also the idea of the game, the way I want to play, the way we structure in terms offensive and our structure in terms of a defensive way. I try to pass my passion and my way of feeling things. It’s a mentality to compete with each other in training sessions, try to win every game, every ball, every duel, to improve the players individually or collectively, to put the team a strong as possible, to improve the team, and start the season as strong as possible because it's a tough season.
“We have a big goal, and we have to work on all things, not only in terms of physicality, in terms of tactical, but in terms of the mentality, it’s important for me. The main goal in this team, in this club at the moment is to change the mentality, put winning a mentality in the players to go strong to the season.
“It's a new era, a new coach, a new idea of the game. Everything is different. I want a humble team to work day by day, to play with a lot of courage, a lot of quality, a lot of organisation, it’s important for me, and also this winning mentality.”
On his work showing
“I'm enjoying it so far. The people and all the players received me well. I'm very happy with the commitment of the players, of all the club. I'm happy because I feel the players want to learn my way of playing and want to improve, to go to the right way, to win. It’s important the fans support these players because at the moment they’re working very hard to improve the team, to improve and achieve the big goal, to put Wolves in the Premier League, and I feel this kind of sensation, good sensation, because the players are working hard and want to improve individually or collectively.”

On unity behind the scenes
“It's very important. I don't think a group is only the players and the technical staff. All the staff behind the scenes are very important to build a good job, to build a winning team, a winning mentality. It’s important, a good environment in the club. The staff will stay closer than us, and the other staff at the stadium are important to bringing everyone together to build a big family with the same goal, with the same mentality to fight to put Wolves in the Premier League. It's important all the environment, not only the players, not only me and my technical staff, but all the people who work for Wolves, it’s important they stay with us and support us because behind the scenes is a lot of work that people don’t see, but there’s a lot of work that people do to put the players with all the things to express their quality, their passion to win games. It’s important everyone stays together.”
