Rodrigo Gomes has promised to do everything possible to help Wolves bounce back to the Premier League as soon as possible if he is part of the playing squad in the Championship next term.
The Portuguese started Wolves’ final two Premier League matches as Rob Edwards had one eye on the future with his team selections in the draws with Fulham at Molineux and the final day of the campaign away to Burnley on Sunday.
Although the player himself has admitted he’s not 100 per cent certain on what the future holds, Edwards has already indicated he would like Gomes to be part of his squad going forward next season, and if he remains at Molineux this summer, he is determined to give his all and repay the Wolves fans for their amazing support this season.
On the season coming to an end
“Starting the last two games has been good for me. I enjoy playing. Every player wants to play, and I played these last two games, starting both, and a few more minutes for me. I’m feeling very good here.
“It’s been a difficult season for them too. It’s been hard, and to end the season like this, with this game, if we win, we’d have jumped up one place, but we didn’t win, we stayed at the bottom of the league, but the reception after the game from the fans was amazing, and I have to thank them for that.
“They are really good for us, and hopefully next season we can give them more, more to be happy about and to be more with us.”
On the support of the Wolves fans
“For them, I just say thank you, because they were always with us, even with the bad results. They've been away, at home, always with us, and I just want to say thank you, and, of course, sorry for the season, and that next season will be better.
“I feel the love from the fans, and I really appreciate that. I promise them, if I stay here, I will do everything to help the club to get back to the Premier League, and I’ll do everything to help this club, because it’s a big club, there are very good people inside the club, very good people outside with the fans, and the club deserve to be in the Premier League.”
On remaining at the club next season
“I think so, yes. I'm being 100 per cent honest because I don't know. I didn't speak to my agent yet because I was focused on finishing the season well but now let's see. I think yes, but let's see because in football, everything can change. If I'm saying, I promise to do everything to get Wolves back in the Premier League.
“Of course [he’d like to stay], being in the Championship is not the same as being in the Premier League, but the Championship is a very competitive league.
“Being part of a team that gets promoted is amazing, so let’s see. If I'm being part of Wolves, I will do everything to do that, and to get Wolves to the Premier League again.”

On ending a tough 2025/26 campaign
“It’s been a difficult season, so I need a break so I can rest, clear my head, and come back next season stronger.
“Personally, it's been difficult because I had a big injury too. I was two and a half months without playing and it was difficult – a very difficult moment for me, and of course the collective was difficult too, because we got relegated, bottom of the league, so it's been difficult for everyone.
“But we need to look at this season, learn from it, and try to improve for the next season, and, like I said, I will do everything to help the club to get back to the Premier League.”
On working with Rob Edwards
“He has a very good energy. When he first arrived, we were already in a very difficult position, and he tried, and he works a lot – you can see that. We had the games against Villa, Liverpool, Brentford, and we had a very good momentum there, and we need to focus on that, and the good momentum that we had this season.
“He’s helped to improve the things that we need to improve, and he is very good manager. He's still very young, and I like his energy.
“The message that he gave to us before this game is to give everything to try to win the game and not finish bottom of the league, and now after the game it’s to rest, enjoy the summer, clean diets, and then come back as strong as possible to the pre-season to do an amazing season.”
