Toti admits the individual mistakes which have led to goals against Wolves are the reason for the team being on the brink of relegation from the Premier League.
After conceding twice in quick succession in the defeat to West Ham United last weekend, Wolves repeated that again at Elland Road on Saturday to hand Leeds United all three points.
And the captain, who made his first start since February, acknowledges that although they were aiming to start strong in their visit to Yorkshire, making these same basic errors will ultimately be the team’s downfall.
On going behind early
“We knew we had to come strong for this game, especially after the bad result in the last game. We had to give an answer, especially after suffering the first goal, we wanted to react, and we knew that we couldn’t make mistakes, and we did. We did the opposite.
“We made a little mistake, and they came with everything. We knew they were going to be a danger on the counter-attack, and we tried to respond back, especially in the second half, because those first two goals in the first half, kind of killed us.
“But the gaffer tried to be positive and we tried to react in the second half, but we knew it would be tough.”
On conceding twice in two minutes
“It cannot happen. This is the Premier League, and at Premier League-level, you cannot concede two goals like this, especially because in the last game, the same thing happened – we conceded two goals in the space of two minutes.
“This is definitely not like us, but these little mistakes can kill us.”
On a first start in two months
“It’s tough. It’s always tough, but everybody that is outside of the starting team always try to come and help the team. We always try to do our best, even if you play or are not playing.
“It’s not easy to play after not playing and you need to have consistency, and I know I tried my best to help the team. But the moment we’ve been going through, we’ve been changing players to try to do better, but it’s been tough for me.”
On fighting until the end of the season
“That’s what the gaffer told us. The season finishes in five more games and it doesn’t matter what happens, but we’ve got to keep fighting, until the end.
“There’s only five more games and we’ve got to keep going, and that’s the message from the gaffer.”
