Young patients receiving treatment at New Cross Hospital will now benefit from brighter, calmer and more welcoming surroundings thanks to a partnership between the Wolves Lottery, Your Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity (Your RWTC) and local artist Mr Murals.
Funded through donations generated by supporters playing the Wolves Lottery, the project has seen a series of children's oncology treatment rooms transformed with vibrant, immersive artwork designed to provide comfort and distraction during what can often be difficult and emotional hospital visits.
The colourful themes were chosen following consultation with patients and staff and have created spaces that are not only visually engaging but also help reduce anxiety for children and their families throughout treatment.
Sarah Lewis, senior matron, acute paediatrics at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “The transformation of our oncology treatment rooms has been truly remarkable. Thanks to the generous support of Wolves Lottery and the incredible artistry of Mr Murals, we now have spaces that feel calmer, brighter and far more comforting for our patients.
“These rooms are where people spend some of their most challenging moments, and creating an environment that brings reassurance and dignity means so much to both our patients and our staff. We are deeply grateful for this support, which has made a real and lasting difference.”
Amanda Winwood, charity development manager, added: “Seeing the transformation of our oncology treatment rooms has been incredibly uplifting. This project shows what can be achieved when our community comes together with a shared purpose. The partnership between Wolves Lottery and Your RWTC, along with the talented Mr Murals, has allowed us to create spaces that feel brighter, calmer and far more supportive for our patients.
“These rooms play a vital role during some of the most difficult moments in a person's life and knowing we can offer an environment that brings comfort and dignity means so much. We are truly grateful for this collaboration, which has made a meaningful and lasting difference for those we care for.”
